Call it bread

Synopsis: Call It Bread is a reflective, metaphor-rich song about the stories we tell ourselves to keep hope alive. Through images of extinguished lamps, broken compasses, dry wells and barren fields, it explores why people continue to trust failed ideas, harmful relationships and empty promises. Rather than judging, the song gently asks whether we cling to the familiar because it comforts us—or because we no longer know how to question it.

Lyrics

Original (Hindi)English Translation
You still try to light the lamp that has long gone out.
You still mistake an extinguished flame for light.
You place your trust in the very hand that struck you.
You still believe silent prayers will somehow work.
Call it bread. Just call it bread. (An ironic refrain meaning: give it whatever comforting name you like.)
Why do you still carry a broken compass in your pocket?
If it no longer points north, why still call it your guide?
Why do you keep turning a spinning wheel that stopped long ago?
Why keep trying to mend a thread that snapped long ago?
Why keep winding the hands of an old clock?
Why keep searching for a time that has already passed?
Call it bread. Just call it bread.
Why guard a lighthouse whose light went out years ago?
Why search for a light that disappeared long ago?
You've mistaken a dry well for a flowing spring.
Why play music on an old broken string?
When the one who listened has long since gone?
Why plough a barren field?
Why expect a harvest from land reduced to ash?
Call it bread. Just call it bread.
Perhaps the wheel keeps turning simply because turning is its nature.
Perhaps a prayer doesn't seek an answer—it simply longs for companionship.
Perhaps that ticket feels like holding a dream in your hand.
Perhaps even a chain begins to look like a diamond when polished enough.
Perhaps we've been burned before.
And never managed to rise from the ashes.
So we've learned to bow our heads.
Because we never dared to ask questions.
Why does the compass inside your heart...
Though the maps have changed, why does it still search for home?
Why does a weary heart still count its own heartbeats?
Why do you call it your own when it has always been wound by someone else's key?
Call it bread. Just call it bread.
You still trust the very hand that struck you.
Yet somehow, that broken compass still leads you home.
You simply tell the darkness, "It's alright... it's alright..."
Call it bread. Just call it bread.

We A'int Skint

Synopsis of the song: What if a nation isn't short of money—but short of courage? Blending folk storytelling with a sing-along chorus, "We Ain't Skint" challenges the familiar story of austerity and asks whether scarcity is a political choice rather than an economic necessity. Verse 1 They preach like we're broke at the kitchen table, "Cut the spending, tighten belts, or we're not able." But they're the ones who print the money, friend— Slash the NHS while the rich dividends never end. Chorus We ain't skint, we ain't skint, Money's just a tool they hold. They print it for the bankers— Now let's print it for the soul. We ain't skint, we ain't skint, Stop acting like we're done. We're only short on courage— Time to rise up in the sun. Verse 2 It ain't the ledger—it's the workers, steel and time. Empty factories while good people lose the line. Train the nurses, build it green, and feed the young; The only li...

Where's the Research

Synopsis of the song :  "Where's the Research?" is a satirical folk lyric that explores how research agendas are shaped by funding and institutional priorities. Inspired by debates on inequality and academic evidence, the song asks a provocative question: if no one studies a problem, does the absence of research make the problem disappear? Through wit and irony, it challenges listeners to consider who decides which questions are worth asking. Lyrics: There was a doctor in a hallway, Under humming winter light, With one bed left for mercy And too many souls that night. He chose one hand to hold the future, And let the others fade from sight, Then marked one down for mercy And turned his face into the night Chorus Oh the perfect crime, the perfect crime, So quiet in its design, You choose who gets the breathing air And who gets left behind. Oh the perfect crime, the perfect crime, No blood upon the knife, Just silence in a waiting room Deciding who gets life. Verse 2 Now th...
